They have a fresh new sound, that make me thing about the old days old BeeBop music. The sound is very laid back and just wonderful to listen too. This is one for the collection.
"Nocturnal"was my first Four80East c.d. I am sucker for great melody and they have it mastered. En Route continues that tradition.
I don't approach my music purchases with the idea that the artist should be playing solely jazz, funk or whatever other genre of music. There are two or three songs that have familiar elements in them, but they all have their own unique flavor. and I have loved them ever since.
There are no two songs on this disc that sound alike. Four80East defies all of that anyway and they haven't disappointed me yet. The thing I love most about this band is that they are so inventive and don't rely too much on a formula.
This is one of the few recordings I have ever listened to in which I like every cut. I am a proud Four80East fan and am glad to have this one in my collection.
Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprise listening to En Route. This is my first Four80East CD, but it definitely won't be my last. This album is definitely a toe-tappin', head-noddin', and in some cases, a rump-shakin' joint. If you've read some of my other reviews, I've gotten somewhat bore of Smooth Jazz, well, it's probably more Smooth Jazz radio than anything else. So I wasn't expecting too much when I purchase this CD. To paraphrase the original Funkmaster himself, George Clinton, "if you like a little Doobie in your Funk" give this CD a try. So far my favorite track, 51 Division, is sizzlin'.
After listening to samples, I thought I'd take a gamble on a group I'd never really listened to before. It's an otherwise decent composition with with some annoying "twilight zone" music chiming in over it. If you're into a more modern, groovy-smooth kind of jazz; this is what you want. I must say, I don't love the first track. The rest are great, indeed for a road trip of just chillin. I'll check out more of 480east.
I have all of their albums and this one sucks compared to the other albums. Do not hesitate to buy any of the previous albums. You will not be disappointed these guys are awesome.
